Hotel Refugio Agustino

The staff were very pleasant, and the lobby entrance was charming. Room 5 was spacious and clean, with lots of windows and a very large shower with plenty of hot water. The double bed was very good, and there was a large coat stand instead of a closet, which was adequate. It took 20 steps to reach the room, but it was worth it. Excellent value for the price.

The location was good, and the housekeeping and night staff were very kind. But this stay was exhausting, and I got sick. I wouldn't recommend the hotel. I booked and paid months ahead for a suite with a kitchen. On arrival, I was moved to a substandard sister property for one night. When I got back to Refugio, my room had no kitchen, and there was no shared kitchen either, just a communal microwave. There was no couch or sitting area, only a loft bed. I didn't get what I had reserved, and neither the hotel nor Expedia resolved my concerns. Management and ownership wouldn't respond to me or Expedia, and no one addressed the missing amenities. The staff spoke only Spanish. The room was noisy enough that I had only one good night's sleep in a week. I could hear the people next door as if they were in the same room. When the bars closed at 3:30 am, partygoers waited for rides outside the window, chatting. The business takes payment for amenities that aren't available.

It was a small, clean hotel and a great value. I paid $750 pesos, about $38 a night, and it was close to the center of Morelia's historical Center.

The rooms were nice, with both upstairs and downstairs areas. I was about to book one, but when they told me prices were going up from $600 to $800 for Holy Week, it seemed a little greedy. I changed my mind and left.
