Casa Arnel

I've been returning to Casa Arnel for more than 30 years. Every group of university students I've brought has enjoyed the people and accommodations, and thrived during their stay. My latest visit was in March 2025, celebrating a major birthday with family and friends.

During the day there were parrots, and the roof terrace connects with a bar next door. The courtyard is lovely, absolutely full of plants and greenery, at least in the rainy season.

The beds and pillows were uncomfortable. The shared bathroom was okay, but the shower is basically over the toilet, so everything gets wet. Kind of gross.

I actually love the old, atmospheric feel of this place. Huge, established plants fill the garden around the rooms, almost like a little indoor jungle, and birds keep you entertained in the mornings and hot afternoons. The walkways wind through one pretty seating area after another. It's not modern or new, but it is quaint and tasteful, with Madonna's mini templos and views across the city. My single room had a double bed, and after a year of travel I got some of my best sleep in ages. The mattress was firm without being too hard, and it was absolutely quiet and peaceful. They cleaned the room meticulously every day. The location is fantastic, safe, and convenient. Only downside was that breakfast wasn't included, and the Booking room rate felt a bit pricey.
