COMALA Bed & Breakfast

The rooms are clean and comfy, and breakfast was really yummy. Comala bed and breakfast also has a cozy rooftop bar. It’s tucked right in the middle of everything, with markets, bars, restaurants, and tours nearby. There are even late night lechon tacos just around the corner. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel at home from hello to goodbye. Stay here when you’re in Oaxaca!

Andres, the manager, was especially helpful with information and suggestions. He arranged taxis and even accompanied us to San Augustin Etla to see its refurbished paper mill, now a beautiful art gallery. The rooms at Comala were sparkling clean and comfortable, breakfast was delicious and included, and the rooftop terrace was lovely. Everyone on staff was warm, friendly, and helpful, and the location was great. We’d stay again in a heartbeat if we’re back in the area.

The bed is way too small for two adults, so I’m giving it 4 stars. Otherwise, the hotel was great for a couple of days. We loved the service and the location, with nice restaurants and bars around, and the rooftop is super cute for chilling.

The pet policy felt especially off. They call the hotel pet-friendly, but charge 600 pesos per night, nearly 35 dollars, supposedly for extra cleaning. I asked the housekeeper what that meant and was told it’s just the normal cleaning. They also said pets shouldn’t get on the furniture, yet the blanket they provided was stained. My room was small, the bathroom even tighter. I had to roll up the bath mat to shut the door. The rate felt way too high for what you get, despite the nice staff. At night I heard traffic and people ringing the doorbell all night from my ground-floor room toward the middle of the building. In the evening, a staff member sat on a bench chatting nonstop. Mornings brought constant hammering and construction noise. Staff said they didn’t know about the construction, as if they weren’t there every day. With all that noise, rest was impossible. I don’t understand the high rating. I’d stay away from this cash grab of a hotel.
