The walls are decorated with hand-painted alebrijes by a famous local artist, which gave the place a charm I haven’t found in another hotel or hostel in Oaxaca. Esmeralda’s care is what really stood out, though. She responds quickly, handles difficult situations with real grace, and is completely professional. When my father got sick, she drove him to the hospital and stayed with him for four days, while a neighbor helped so she could also manage the hostal. We’re very grateful for her hospitality. I wouldn’t stay anywhere else. When someone needs help, she goes above and beyond, as if it were her motto.

Esmeralda, the hostal’s manager, made me feel at home right away. She arranged taxis for nights out and for the airport, and her family even invited me to join their game night. If you know some Spanish and want to practice, this is a lovely place to do it. I’ll be back next time I’m in Oaxaca. I picked Hostal Guelaguetza for six nights after seeing its Google Maps reviews, location, amenities, and affordable price. It’s new, but the art on the walls and wood details make it feel cozy. My room was small, clean, and comfortable, with its own bathroom, plenty of hot water, and a little balcony for a breeze and a look at the neighborhood. There’s also a lovely rooftop terrace for watching the sun set over the city. The hostal sits at the edge of lively Jalatlaco, around a 10-15 minute walk from the city center attractions. Thanks for a great stay!

The shared kitchen has good equipment, and my room was clean. The hostal staff were also very friendly and ready to help. It’s close to the ADO bus terminal.

It felt safe and was clean. There are lots of restaurants nearby, along with local markets where you can eat traditional food.

A clean, new hostel with a social space where you can meet people. Centro is only about a five-minute walk away.
