Hotel Oaxaca Mágico

The walls are so thin that you can hear neighbors, the lobby, and people upstairs. It didn’t seem like a big deal until the noise woke me up. I also found the hotel very overpriced, and even the conchas in the lobby cost way too much. The bathroom is extremely cramped, with only about four inches between the toilet and the wall. Taller or bigger people may not fit, and the oddly placed doorknob means you’re likely to bang your elbows and knuckles. There’s no outside-facing window, just a door and a window toward the lobby. Without the curtains, everyone can see in, and the only lock is a regular house key, which didn’t feel secure. There’s no hot water in the shower, barely any room to get dressed, and the towels have holes. The parking lot is as tight as the bathroom, with a really steep entrance. The staff are friendly.

The staff were friendly and the rooms were clean, but I wouldn’t recommend staying here. Our TV didn’t work, and there was no hot water on our last morning. They also charged me for a two-bed room because my three-year-old son was with us, even though he slept in one bed with us. They said he had to pay for a bed. We were exhausted from traveling all day and paid so we could get some rest.

The best parts were the price and location. The nightly rate I found online was very good, and a friendly agent got us checked in quickly. I was surprised they had parking at all, though the basement has very few spaces and it’s first come, first served. The rooms are quite small, the towels and shower curtains were worn, and the Wi-Fi kept cutting out. We had a hard time checking in for our flights because the page wouldn’t load. I’d give the amenities two stars and the room quality about two and a half, compared with five for price and location.

The hotel was clean and pleasant. A bus stop right outside meant noisy engines every few minutes during the day. We were out seeing the city then, and the buses stopped at night, so it didn’t bother us much.
