We were left without a room despite having paid in advance through Booking.com. We had booked Hotel Maela for an extra night after our flight was canceled while we were already in Oaxaca, so we could have somewhere safe to stay. We had the platform's receipt and confirmation number. We arrived around 9 PM with four large suitcases, tired and unfamiliar with the area. The receptionist confirmed my name and reservation, then refused to hand over a room, insisting we hadn't paid. We showed the payment proof, and Booking.com contacted the hotel to confirm it too, but they still denied the payment. Eventually they canceled the booking altogether. It was extremely stressful to be turned away late at night in a city where we don't live, with our luggage and a reservation we'd already paid for. It felt like a scam: we'd done everything right and still didn't get the service. This hotel doesn't respect travelers, honor reservations, or offer support in urgent situations. I strongly recommend avoiding Hotel Maela if you want to feel safe and treated fairly on your trip.

It was fine for what it is, pretty basic and nothing memorable. The bright lights outside shine through the sheer curtains, so sleeping was hard.

The location is great, but I wouldn't stay here again. When we visited 4-5 years ago, our room was fine. This time it was hot and stuffy even though it was cool outside. The old air conditioner barely worked and was too loud to run overnight. Reception didn't seem surprised when we told them, and gave us a fan that didn't help. Outside lights kept the room bright through the thin curtains, and the sheets felt old and rough. I can't recommend it.

The staff are outstanding, and the location can't be beat. My first-floor room was noisy, with no hot water, a sink that only dribbled, and a hard bed. I asked to switch because of the noise, and the second-floor room felt like heaven: quiet, comfortable, good water pressure, and a Juliette balcony.
