I loved the balance here, it’s social but still relaxing, with a small hostel feel and a warm, intimate stay in a great location. The rooftop is gorgeous and people lounge up there regularly. There’s also a spacious, well-equipped kitchen. The showers were fantastic, the best I’ve had in Mexico. Victor, the salsa teacher, is a gem. He’ll happily join everyone at Txalaparta and take you to local spots, so show his classes some love. Big thanks to Yoka, a thoughtful manager with lots of helpful suggestions. Mar and Flor made delicious breakfast each morning and kept the hostel super clean.

The separate bathrooms each have a toilet, shower, and sink, which is a real game changer, especially for women. Staff were super friendly, breakfast was great, and the location is solid. There’s enough storage for your things, the vibe is chill, and having a pool is a great extra when you’re visiting the city.

Maka Hostel made the Day of the Dead festival feel like a real experience. On Friday night they took everyone from the hostel on a trip to the cemeteries, which was amazing, and they have trips and events every day that make it easy to meet other travelers. The area felt safe and everything was walkable. The place is friendly, social, and cozy, with a pool in the communal area, free breakfast, a decent happy hour, great showers, and comfy beds. The owners and volunteers make a real effort to get to know guests and make everyone feel involved and welcome. Five stars from me, nothing but great things to say.

Yummy breakfast, a sociable but chilled vibe, and really welcoming, helpful staff. It’s a great hostel, comfortable and clean, and I’d definitely recommend it.

I already booked three more nights and might stay longer. The place has a great vibe, free breakfast, and a rooftop bar, deck, and kitchen that are all awesome. You can buy your own food and cook too, and there’s a pool. The beds are perfect, the showers amazing, and the staff are so welcoming and friendly. Maka hostel is the best. I’d absolutely recommend it. OAXACA is stunning, and I can’t wait to explore. You definitely won’t regret coming.
