This was the first time in my life I had to demand and get a refund. I had to spend money on a premium call through booking.com to sort it out. The room just wasn’t good. The wall air conditioner had no filter, and its metal vanes were clogged with built-up grime. The fan started rattling right after we got the room. I tried calling the desk, but the room phone wasn’t plugged in. Its socket was inside a hole in the wall, and even after I fished it out and plugged it in, the phone still didn’t work. The room was small and crammed with three small beds, clearly to fit more paying guests. A booking-genius discount brought the price to $338 for three nights, but it should have been about $60 cheaper with the mobile-only reservation. At check-in, the desk gave me no paperwork about the reservation or Wi-Fi details, just one plastic room key card. It felt like they were worried about saving electricity, though I usually turn things off when we’re out, apart from basic cooling. Staff offered to try another, presumably similar, room, but the manager agreed to refund us. The location was good, across the street from IMSS Vacation Center, where we were attending a church conference. Luckily, we could still get a room there instead. I’ll review that place next. It was mostly better, with just a couple of flaws.

The restaurant staff were the only real positive, along with having AC in our room when the power was on. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Booking was a hassle. In 2024, it wasn’t possible to book and pay online, so we had to contact them, transfer money from Europe, and send proof before they would confirm. When we arrived, five people were sitting at the counter seemingly doing nothing, but they served only one customer at a time, so check-in took forever. The room looked like it came from the 1970s, maybe earlier. The bathroom sink was beside the bed rather than in the toilet, and they couldn’t provide a crib for our baby. We then had no electricity for hours in heat above 35°C, so naturally the AC didn’t work. People drank, shouted, and partied by the pool all night, even though the pools were supposedly closed from 10 pm to 8 am. Breakfast wasn’t included, despite my impression when booking that it was. It was expensive for what it was, and there weren’t other options nearby, so we were stuck with it. Checkout took ages too. They had to make sure the two adults and our 10-month-old hadn’t trashed the room, as if that was even possible in a room from the 1970s. After 15 minutes I said I had to leave, and left.

We picked this as a last-minute place to stay on a trip to Morelos. The first room smelled bad, the AC didn’t cool the whole space, and there were huge roaches in it. We gave two stars because, after we complained, they moved us to a completely different area. That room was much cleaner, had no roaches, and the AC worked well. There was still some kind of smell from the showers, but it was manageable. If booking through Expedia, I’d avoid the cheapest rooms and choose the pricier ones.

The restaurant inside this hotel is a nice place to eat while in oaxtepec. The food is tasty and reasonably priced. Everything seemed fine, and a lot has changed since my last visit, but I didn’t like the plastic plates and tableware.

The hotel is nice and has good sports facilities, but the rooms are far too cramped. There isn’t enough space for two people to work in one.
