We’ve been here several times, and the service has always been spot on. The restaurant guys are welcoming and super friendly, and the bar area is lovely, with delicious drinks. There’s a fantastic view, and the hotel is just outside town but close enough to walk, with a taxi back. I can’t understand the bad reviews. Go and see for yourself. Strange that the two recent negative reviews have the same last name, though.

For my 78 Birthday Party, this restaurant turned out perfectly elegant, and our guests from Arizona were truly impressed. We had a beautiful view of Pátzcuaro Lake, the valley, and mountains from the dining room, and even the top floor reception area took our breath away. Hotel Portón Del Cielo sits on the Estribo Ridge, and its uniquely charming architecture makes the name feel fitting, like a Gateway to Heaven. Everywhere you look, there are wonderful crafts from the Lake Pátzcuaro communities, along with warm colors and sumptuous furnishings. A lovely stone staircase leads down to the dining room. The waiters helped with all our questions in English and Spanish. Beforehand, Assistant manager Santiago had answered my question about Gluten Free choices for our daughter Jenn. We all found dishes we liked: Nate had the most splendid Enchiladas Suisse I've ever seen, Jenn, Cici and Tyler had generous, succulent Breast of Chicken, I had beautifully prepared Salmon, and my husband enjoyed a tasty Hamburger with Cheese and Fries. The pre-ordered Gluten Free Carrot Cake was the grand finale, with at least 6 potions. They'd even made a special placard in English saying " Happy Birthday Nancy". Nate also said his Chai Tea Latte was exceptionally well prepared.

If you're after peace and nature, this well-designed hotel has a beautiful setting. The staff were excellent, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience.

The owners give warm, personal attention, and the food is delicious. The bedrooms are beautiful and luxurious, each with incredible views of Pátzcuaro's lake and it's islands. There's a restaurant, bar, playroom, parking, and all the amenities you need for a trip. A special touch is the Mexican handcraft throughout the hotel, with something lovely in every corner.

Our presidential suite was incredible, and the view was absolutely spectacular. But getting there is so difficult that you end up feeling cut off from all the cool things in town. The service was the worst of any place we stayed in Mexico. It really needs to improve.
