Anah Suites Dowtown Luxury Condo

We stayed four nights, and on the last one someone got into our safe and took everything, including watches, jewelry, and a head shaver. It looked like the safe had been tampered with. We were in room 101, which connects to 101B through an internal door. That morning, my friend and I saw two cleaning ladies in the neighboring apartment while we were heading to the pool. The people there had checked out, so we thought nothing of it. When we came back about two hours later, the cleaners had gone. We assumed that was the only apartment checking out that day. Later, I went to the safe for extra cash and found all our belongings missing. The front desk woman acted as if she couldn't understand me, though we'd spoken with her every day before. We called the police; they came to the property, but since we were leaving the next day, they shrugged it off and said we could file a complaint if we wanted. The hotel also wouldn't tell us which cleaning company they had hired.

We liked a friend's stay here in a different room the year before, so we booked room 106 at Anah Downtown for May 23 to May 29. Check-in was quick, and the front desk staff were friendly and answered our questions. We also appreciated the pool, air conditioning, spacious room, and location near Walmart and 5th Avenue. We might consider staying again, but for what we paid, the problems made us uncomfortable and unhappy, especially since we've had better stays at cheaper places. A lot of the room needed attention. The bathroom fittings and washcloths looked old and, to me, dirty. After we sent the cloths to be washed, they came back the same color instead of white. Most of the dishes were dirty, including the inside of the coffee maker, so we had to wash things again. The little dining table was smeared as if someone had eaten pizza there, and there was a cigar on the balcony, even though smoking was prohibited. Neither my boyfriend nor I smoke, so it seemed the balcony hadn't been cleaned. There was no iron, and we wished there were more seats or better seating outside than the three dirty plastic chairs. The Wi-Fi details we were sent didn't match the actual network, so we had to ask for the correct one. Our neighbor was very nosy, and the thin walls meant we could hear them moving things around.

The rooftop pool and location were both fabulous, and the basement laundry service washed and folded clothes for 60 pesos. We stayed for several weeks in January 2023, but the noise and broken gym equipment brought the experience down to average for me. There were new groups of younger guests coming through each week to party. With walls this thin, you hear what goes on in other units, and some people played loud music until 6 a.m. There's also a hostel right next door that throws loud parties, so there wasn't really any getting away from it. We complained several times. Staff spoke to the noisy groups, but they didn't care. Many units are individually owned and rented on Airbnb, so the building doesn't have full control over who stays. We chose the place specifically because it advertised a gym. It has a small gym room, but all three machines, the treadmill, elliptical, and rowing machine, were broken. I have no idea how long they'd been that way. The heaviest dumbbell was only 20 pounds, which was a letdown. If having a gym on vacation matters to you, keep that in mind.

We left after just one night. Our apartment had mold and hadn't been cleaned properly, the place felt run down, and the pool wasn't clean. Some of the western and European guests also struck us as a bit dodgy. The staff weren't very helpful, and the host company couldn't arrange another apartment either in the building or somewhere else. On top of that, the apartment host or administrator tried to scam us. Avoid this place.
