The place was clean enough, but the dorm is small and very basic: a bed, pillow, two sheets, and a towel. It was noisy from 5th Ave, so bring ear plugs. There's no reception or staff on site, and you have to text the guy to be let in. He charged me twice the advertised price. He didn't seem very serious about running a hostel. I wouldn't really recommend it unless you just need a bed.

The rooms were okay, and there was a kitchen where we could cook our own meal. Finding the apartment in the rain took a while. It was a hidden door beside a clothing shop, not where I expected to look. Luckily, someone who lived in the same apartment building could let us in. I had no internet to contact the owner, and there was no phone number on the door, so it was all pretty unclear.

The apartment is spacious, with a living room, bathroom, and main bedroom that has two balconies and air conditioning. It's on the corner of Fifth Avenue and close to downtown, which made it easy to explore. Cleaning is done every three days. The cable TV they mention wouldn't work for me, if the service was even available. One thing Despegar doesn't mention is the 475 peso environmental tax, which has to be paid in cash. Since this is a rental rather than a hotel, they also ask you to fill out a contract with your credit card details, and say that $1,000 USD is the amount to cover damages. Listings on Despegar and elsewhere mention a pool, but there isn't one.
