The beach can vary a lot. Sometimes there’s plenty of sand out front, while storms or erosion can take much of it away. Sargassum tends to be worse from April to September, and it can get nasty. El Faro itself is right on the beach, with a huge clean pool that’s more than you could expect, and it’s easy to get to Playacar for a walk along the shore. The location in Playa Del Carmen is hard to beat, with hundreds of restaurants and four large grocery stores from a five-second to a 10-minute walk away. The shared areas are professionally kept up, the bins are emptied several times a day, and the front desk and security staff are happy to help. Since each condo is individually owned and managed, quality varies: some are spectacular, others neglected. That isn’t El Faro’s fault, since they can’t make individual owners keep their units to a high standard. For the best chance of a great condo at a good price, try Silvia and Eber at Deam Zone Travel Mexico. They manage many El Faro condos, know most of the units well, and are based in Playa Del Carmen. We stayed in a 3br, 2ba condo with a big kitchen and a generous patio. There were two outdoor tables with seating for 8, plus an outdoor couch for 2-3 people. The view was stunning, and we had direct access to the clean infinity pool, which staff maintain daily. The property is gorgeous, quiet, and peaceful, and everyone here is so nice. It’s also well maintained and secure.

The residence has a 30m pool, gym, laundry, and parking. It’s in the middle of Playa del Carmen, with Oxxo, 7/11, coffee shops, night clubs, and even Walmart all close by. Walmart is about a 10mn walk.

El Faro is our favorite place to stay in Playa del Carmen. It’s a lovely, well kept spot right on the beach, and the staff are amazing and really helpful, even though it isn’t an all-inclusive resort. There are several good bar/restaurants around the property, and 5th Avenue is just two blocks away. The ferry to Cozumel is also a short walk down the beach.

Great spot and a nice pool, though I do think the deck needs fixing. It feels a little scary.
