Holiday Inn Express & Suites Playa Del Carmen by IHG

Cecelia, the night manager, was wonderful. I messed up my Booking.com reservation badly, and she canceled everything free of charge and let me make a new booking. The room was quiet and very spacious, the location was central, and the free breakfast was decent. Ricardo, the manager, was kind and helpful too. I’d absolutely recommend this place, 10/10. The rooftop pool is great, with a sea view.

For once, I could actually sleep well in a hotel. The sheets were clean and the bed comfortable. The spacious room had a closet with hangers, plus an iron and ironing board and a hair dryer. The bathroom had personal hygiene items and clean towels, and there was coffee, tea, and bottled water in the room. Breakfast came with the stay, though it was pretty basic. I had a great experience.

Everything we wanted to reach was walkable from this hotel: Fifth Avenue, the beach, ADO station, the ferry terminal, supermarkets, and lots of good restaurants. We absolutely loved staying here. The place was very clean, the front desk service was outstanding, and Ricardo deserves a special mention. He’s great at his job, and his card tricks are amazing! Breakfast is simple but nicely balanced, a pleasant way to start the day. One small thing that would help is a door sign saying “Please clean my room.” Our room was farther from the main area, and a few times we came back after a long day to find it hadn’t been cleaned yet. Housekeeping arrived just as the kids were starting their showers. It was inconvenient, but the staff were accommodating and waited until we were done, then cleaned the room beautifully each time. We’d happily recommend the hotel and return. The location, service, and welcoming feel made for a fantastic stay.

The biggest plus here is the location. You’re right by 5th Ave and in the middle of the action, so it’s easy to get around and explore. We really enjoyed our stay at the Holiday Inn overall, and the rooms were nice and big, especially useful for this location. Breakfast was average, nothing special, but if being central is what you’re after, it’s a great place.
