Sofía by Bunik

The room was big and very clean, and the staff were cordial. The pool was nice, and the hotel is close to quinta avenida, the beach, constituyentes avenida, a main road, and lots of places to eat and shop. But there were a few problems. I arrived around 2 am, and the person at the door greeted me with a smile. When I asked about parking, he said I could use the lot downstairs, but would have to move my car to the street if an “owner” or someone with an Airbnb reservation showed up. Strike one. Half the bathroom floor was wet when I went to shower because the shower head sprayed everywhere, and there was nothing I could do about it. The shower head was messed up, with water coming out of the top instead of where it should. Strike two and three. You can't park outside the hotel from 10 am to 10pm unless you pay. I found free parking across from 30 avenida. Toiletries are tiny, enough for only about one and a half showers, so bring your own.

The rooftop garden and pool were beautiful and gave us a nice place to cool off. More lounge chairs would help, though. Some guests left their things on chairs and daybeds to reserve them, then stayed away for hours, making it hard for others to use the space. A clearer chair policy could help everyone enjoy the rooftop. We had a clean, comfortable stay at Sofia by Bunik, and the location was excellent. 5th Avenue, restaurants, bars, and shopping were an easy walk away, including a Mega grocery store about seven minutes away. Having a fridge and microwave was convenient, and the cooktop would be handy for a longer stay, even though we didn't use it. We also enjoyed the balcony as a quiet place to relax. The room was spotless and tidy. Thanks to our chamber maid, Silvia, for keeping it immaculate each day. Juan Carlos at the front desk was especially welcoming and personable, always greeting us with a smile and helping us feel at home. His excellent service made a real difference. The entrance was clean and well maintained too, making a great first impression. We'd happily stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing, well located place in Playa del Carmen.

Juan Carlos and the whole staff give amazing customer service. These are the best condos to stay at in Playa, close to everything, with great restaurants nearby and an easy walk to 5 th ave. I'll be back again and again.

The rooftop setup was fantastic, with a great pool, BBQ area, and hammocks. The room was also a good size with a condo style layout, kitchen, balcony, big bathroom, and storage. The 24 hour front desk made the place feel safe, and it was reassuring to know someone was available if anything needed attention. For the price and location, we'd put up with a few problems. The elevator was reeeeaaaallllyyyyy slow, and every so often the shower drain made a loud grinding, rattling noise when water splashed over it. Putting a plunger over the drain made the water in the toilet go nuts. The noise eventually stopped, but it happened three times during the week. The WiFi was so weak it might as well not have been there, and I needed it for work while traveling. Water pressure was poor, especially in the shower. Washing thick hair would have been very difficult, maybe impossible. I'm bald, so it didn't matter much to me. Overall, I had little else to complain about. The price was fantastic, the location was close to everything, and the pool was fabulous. I'd stay again in a heartbeat.
