Hotel Maria's Nicte Ha

The location is good and close to the beach, but the room was strange and uncomfortable. There were two beds, one double and one single, facing opposite directions. The AC was at the far end of the bedroom, so cooling the room took a long time. The living room and kitchen never got cool and stayed hot. We also had to wash our own dishes, since cleaning didn’t include them. The biggest issue was the locked front gate. They lock it at 10 pm, and there’s nobody at the desk to let you in or out. If we’d stayed out late, we couldn’t have got back to our room. I wake up early and like coffee, but couldn’t leave until someone opened the gate at 7 am.

The walk to Centro is a little long, but that also means fewer tourists around. You can take the boardwalk downtown and back. The kitchenettes worked perfectly, and the staff were incredibly helpful with everything. One of the best vacation hotels we’ve ever stayed in, absolutely beautiful. Five stars.

The common areas are beautiful and well kept, with chairs, tables, hammocks, a grill, a bathroom, and a pool shower. There’s also a clean, maintained pool and plenty of parking. Downtown is a couple of blocks away, with little to no traffic at night, and the beach is about a block away. The entrance gate locks at 10 pm, but they give you a key. Our suite had a stocked kitchen with a gas stove and fridge, good internet, and a hot shower. It also had a washroom with a clothesline. Smaller rooms don’t have kitchens, but there’s a shared kitchen area. The rooms are clean and beautiful. My only complaint is that I stayed somewhere else first.

This hostel-style hotel has a shared pool in the inner courtyard and a fantastic location. You feel like you’re staying in a neighborhood, not visiting as a cruise ship tourist. The staff are phenomenal, accommodating, and ready to help with anything. It’s easy to fall for the place, whether you stay a few days or longer. I felt like I was living my best hippie life, wandering barefoot with a cocktail, a flowing dress, and week-old unwashed hair. Who cares when the plan is beach wandering, hanging out with Matteo Cat, and cooking tacos in your own kitchenette?
