Casa Rosa Gran Hotel Boutique

The decor was nice and the location was great, but we really wanted to like this unique boutique-style hotel and couldn’t get past the problems. The first thing we noticed in our room was a sickeningly strong air freshener smell, like the kind used in toilet bowls. We found one attached to the trash bin and removed it, but the odor stayed. We asked to move rooms. The second one had no working AC, no window, and no warm water. It also had the same air freshener, though less of it, and the smell still bothered us all night. The lights in that room didn’t seem to work properly either, which made getting dressed difficult.

The rooms are beautiful, and the view of the church is lovely. Get a room with a balcony, you won’t regret it.

The staff were very kind, and our room was much more interesting than what you’d find in a typical hotel. It’s in a great spot by the zocalo, but the noise was a problem. We were there on a weekend, and the restaurant above stayed open until around midnight. Street noise continued until 2:00 or 3:00 AM. Then on Sunday, apparently every Sunday, there’s a race finishing at the zocalo, with lots of announcements and bullhorn noise starting around 6:30 AM. If you’re a light sleeper visiting on a weekend, bring earplugs.

The hotel was quiet, and our room had its own AC unit. A cleaning lady came by each day, and the front desk was very helpful with accommodations. There are plenty of food options nearby, and it’s a short walk to callejón de los sopas, calle del dulce, and the biblioteca palafoxia. Great location.
