Posada Vee Yuu - Hostel

The location worked well, but I wouldn't recommend staying here otherwise. In room P5, the kitchen had mostly dirty dishes and no washing-up liquid, and the gas was off on our first night, so cooking or even boiling water wasn't possible. The kitchen only had a toaster oven, stove, and fridge. The room itself was dirty, though the en-suite was nice. Street noise came straight in because the balcony door didn't reach the floor, so soundproofing was poor. Free coffee was advertised, but reception said it wasn't available. On our first night, someone had left coffee in the kettle, and I had to clean it out.

We were in room P4, which had a lovely high ceiling and balcony, and water was offered, which was nice. But the noise made it hard to sleep: the downstairs bar played music until 2:00 am, and the windows weren't airtight, so traffic, honking drivers, and lorries could be heard late into the night. Showers worked only now and then and often went cold quickly. The toilet flush button was unreliable too, so sometimes we had to lift the cistern cover and pull the stop ourselves. They advertised free morning coffee, but it wasn't available. We were only ever given one spare toilet roll, which seemed like a strange limit when they could have kept a stack in the en-suite.

There was no water in our private bathroom on 23 October. Reception tried to fix it but couldn't, and when I asked to use the shared bathrooms, he wanted me to pay. I've never seen that at a hostel, and his manner was terribly rude. The beds were bad, there was a lot of noise in the pipes, and the whole stay was a very bad experience.

The common lounge had couches and art, and I wish I'd known about the rooftop patio before I left. The location in Puebla's historic centre was great, and for the price we got a large room with three beds, a private bathroom, and a comfortable bed with a really plump pillow, much better than the one I had in CDMX. The vaulted ceiling and skylight brought in lots of natural light. The bathroom wall was shared with the next room's bathroom and open at the top, so you could hear everything and it didn't feel very private. It wasn't a big issue for my one-night stay, though, and I'd book again.
