Hotel San Agustin

Friendly staff, a comfortable bed, and hot showers. The internet was somewhat unstable, and the hotel itself is very old fashioned, with no frills. It’s centrally located, three blocks from the great cathedral and zocalo of Puebla, and very good value. A basic breakfast is available next door.

This old school hotel has some charm, but you get what you pay for. The walls are paper thin, I spotted the occasional cockroach, and the bedding had clearly been used plenty. The front desk kid was frustrating to communicate with and didn’t seem to make an effort to welcome non-Spanish speakers. With the kitchen and other things closed because of COVID, the ambience felt creepy. I imagine the place has seen better days. The Wi-Fi is unstable, so don’t plan on working here.

It’s a cozy place near Downtown and the Cathedral, and the rates are affordable. But they only take cash, no credit cards. Unbelievable.

The traditional food was reasonably priced, and both the food and service were good. Our waiter was helpful and attentive. He recommended the Tasajo and Horchata, and both were great. Highly recommend.
