The neighborhood is beautiful and felt very safe, with everything in the historic center within walking distance. The hotel itself has a lot of charm, though the short, Hobbit-style doors could be awkward if you’re tall. Music from nearby clubs blasted late into the night, so going to bed before midnight meant lying awake listening to it. I chose a boutique hotel because supporting small local businesses matters to me, and these are things I wish I’d known beforehand. The bathroom wouldn’t flush several times, leaving my poop floating for hours. One evening, the shower stopped completely while I was getting ready for dinner. I had to leave my room in just a towel, covered in soap, with dinner guests seeing me, to explain the problem to a worker. It was humiliating. The locks were another serious issue. There’s no modern locking system, just a 12-inch key that takes several minutes to work out, if you can get the door locked at all. The worker told me to hang the key on the door and said he’d watch it. That made me wonder what locking the door was for, and whether I should trust someone I’d never met with my belongings and cash. I’ll post a video showing how the lock works.

The owner and the young woman at reception were incredibly kind. The owner even went well out of his way to help me park my motorcycle. It’s a beautiful, classy place in a perfect location, and I’d happily come back. Highly recommend it.

The desk staff were so helpful, arranging good taxis and drivers and sharing recommendations. Hotel service and management were excellent, and the place was clean, quaint, and full of lovely details and special decor. There are many places to walk to nearby. As devoted Catholics to Our Virgin of Guadalupe, we felt blessed to have a beautiful mural of Our Lady in our room. Los Antigos Boehemos music made a great accompaniment to dinner, though the restaurant service could be better.

The food was very good, especially the mole and pipián, which I’d recommend. I thought the tortillas could taste better, but the service was good. The place is amazing, colorful, and full of magic, with the power of Mexican folklore all around inside.

We had a really good time here. The waiter was attentive and gave us great suggestions, and the service was excellent. We enjoyed the margaritas and followed them with a good bottle of Mexican wine. The food was really good too.
