Casa Macondo

Don’t stay here. I booked and drove an hour from PE, only to find nobody at the property or reception. I tried calling and messaging, but got no reply. Hours later, I had to book another hotel at the last minute, which ruined our evening plans. Earlier reviews described the same problem, and I regret not checking Google reviews more carefully.

We felt ripped off by Andy and Casa Macondo. Before arriving, we’d agreed with Andy that we would rent the top space plus a smaller one for four nights. When we got there, Andy was gone. He turned up about two hours later and said he’d prepared a different space instead. He insisted it was a better deal, clearly for Andy, not for us. I asked to see the original spaces we’d agreed on, but he didn’t want that. As others have said, the place was very simple and overpriced. The bed was comfortable and the balcony had a great view. It wasn’t especially clean, though it was okay. The pool was empty and unusable, and nobody had mentioned it. We wouldn’t recommend staying here.

Andi and his family made the stay fun. He built the whole place from scratch and knows it inside out. He’s a true German gentleman who went beyond what I expected to help us feel comfortable. We ended up feeling like instant new friends. The setting is tranquil, and the beach is the best around. There are several hippie beach towns along the coast, but this one feels authentic and free of the riffraff. You don’t have to hop around to find a good beach: there are three beaches in one, divided by rock formations that are a feast for the eyes. The views are breathtaking, and the cove feels otherworldly. As they say in Spanish, “lo mejor de lo mejor,” aka “the best of the best.” I’d highly recommend it if you want to relax.

The host was incredibly attentive and helpful, and we felt completely at home. We had a beautiful room overlooking the sea, while the pool looks out over both the water and the mountains. The kitchen is fully equipped, the beds are very comfortable, and a lovely little beach is just a five-minute walk away. We were absolutely thrilled and will definitely return.
