Hotel San Juan

The beds were decent, and both the hot water and air conditioning worked well. The staff were okay, too. But despite the daily cleaning, the room still felt dirty. The fan was caked with dust, the bathroom sink had yellow stains, and the light switches were so grimy I didn't want to touch them. Even the pool looked dirty. It's not a bad deal for the price, but cleanliness was a problem.

The hotel looks nice, but it was pretty noisy. Staff made a lot of noise early in the morning, and in the evening or at night nobody seemed to make sure people kept quiet, especially in the rooms below the terrace. If you need a quiet night's sleep, I'd avoid it. Otherwise, the hotel was okay.

We booked at the last minute for a few days while I looked for somewhere to stay longer, since there weren't many options. The hot water and AC worked, the room was cleaned daily with fresh towels and soap, and some days the WiFi worked too. WiFi around Puerto Escondido isn't great in general. For the price, those basics were good to have. But the room was down a dark hallway with very little light, which felt depressing. Even with daily cleaning, the place still felt icky. The fan and light switches were dirty, the bathroom was old and grimy, with a rusty toilet base and stained sink, and the pool looked green and dirty. One night I smelled mold. I left the next morning and booked a brighter, cleaner, more modern hotel because I didn't feel comfortable staying there.

We ended up getting a really nice room with air conditioning and a private balcony for a reduced price. The young woman at reception was lovely and speaks several languages. It's very well located, and we had a really enjoyable, friendly stay.
