Mondala Hostal Carrizalillo

Mondala Hostal sits right on the beach, with the sound of the waves and a calm feel. The service was great, and there's a bar and a fridge for your own food. The manager keeps the place in good shape, with cleaning from 6-10am, so everything's ready by the time you get up. It's clean, safe, affordable, and fun, and the location is perfect. Musicians sometimes turn up and play live for free. Other times people hang out over pool and affordable drinks at the bar, which is open until 22:00. Best hostel I've ever stayed at. Thanks for making it such a good experience.

We ended up extending our stay, and I'd happily return. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the place had a relaxed feel. Wooden lockers are in the kitchen area, and I used my own small padlock. It's a simple backpacker hostal in a fantastic spot, up on a hill overlooking a lovely beach. Great for sunsets with an inexpensive cold beer. Several good restaurants are a three-minute walk away. Our private cabaña was basic but fine for sleeping and resting, with a worn old fan that kept us cool. The bathroom and shower worked, and the mattresses and bedding were fresh and clean.

It was easy to meet people, and everyone was kind and laid-back. The hostel has a social feel without being a party place, which suited me perfectly. The dorms are simple but clean, and I worried about mosquitoes at night for nothing. Great location and staff. I'll stay again when I'm in Puerto.

The cabanas surround a bar that plays awful commercial music very loudly almost 24/7, so this isn't a place for getting to sleep early or sleeping well after a night out. The odd thing is that the bar doesn't even seem to have guests, just a bunch of guys smoking weed and playing board games.
