Unico La Punta Hotel Boutique

Francisco, the bar manager, was excellent and worked incredibly hard. The service staff worked well together, and the beach setup was perfect, with beds, loungers, cushions, and umbrellas. There aren’t many hotels right on the sand, so the choices are slim, but you can probably find better value farther down the beach. The hotel is in an excellent spot in the heart of Punta, right on the sand. Only a few rooms have an ocean view, so if the listing says ocean view, it may not be. For an oceanfront room, you need the second floor or you won’t see much beyond palms and some sand. You can’t charge food or drinks from the rooftop restaurant/bar or beach bar to your room. Bring a credit card, since not many ATMs in Punta have more than $500 pesos. Kevin, who handles reservations, was less helpful. He talks a good game but doesn’t follow through much, and seems focused on business rather than you.

I wanted to love this place, since the modern, minimal style is my kind of thing and the location is amazing, right in the center and across from the beach. But it didn’t quite work for us. Noise from the halls and lobby came through incredibly loudly, and we could hear people arriving after a night out and chatting in the lobby while we were in bed. There seems to be no soundproofing, so sleep was tough. Our bathroom was tiny, there’s no closet for clothes, and the rough floors were hard on our feet. Bring slippers, since there are no floor rugs or slippers provided.

The hotel is beautiful, and we spent two days in a row on the loungers by the beach. The food and drinks were great, and the service was awesome. We’ll probably stay here next time we’re in town. Definitely check it out.

Renting a sun bed for the day was great, and they have a nice menu with fresh food and drinks. The service was patient and really helpful. I’d happily come back and would definitely recommend it.
