I was told I could stay at the hotel, but my partner had to leave. We left right away. He is Mexican and moreno, while I am white, and the unexplained decision to let one of us remain while asking the other to go was deeply disturbing. It felt like bias, whether intentional or not. Things had been confusing from the start, with our reservation and very poor communication from staff. At first we gave the hotel some grace because Puerto Vallarta was tense at the time. But after reading similar reviews, this seems not to be unusual. The most troubling moment was a staff member falsely accusing my partner of being “disrespectful.” He had been calm and polite, and we were traveling with family. There was no policy violation. Management should seriously look at its internal culture and staff training. No guest should have to go through this.

The food was good, and Mauricio, one of the waiters, was pleasant and kind. The beds are very firm, there was a persistent plumbing smell in the bathroom, and plane noise could be heard throughout the night. I wouldn’t stay here again. I booked through Airbnb and clearly asked in messages for a room by the pool. I even changed my flight so I’d arrive a day later to fit that room’s availability. Instead, I was given an upstairs room and told the pool-level room wasn’t available. Staff later agreed to move me the next day, but I heard nothing until after 1:30 PM, when they said the room had been sold because they “didn’t have access” to the room I was in. Nobody had contacted me to explain that they needed access or to tell me what I should do. At the front desk I found out the room had never been held for me and had gone through a third-party site. That guest had arrived and been given the room before noon, so it was clear the agreement was never going to be honored. Staff then blamed me for not coming to the desk earlier, although they hadn’t reached out or given me instructions. Airbnb looked into it and agreed with my account. I was on a budget and couldn’t switch hotels. Airbnb offered a coupon, and I decided to let it go. Five days later the property left me a negative review saying I was difficult to contact and unkind. Neither is true. Nobody contacted me, and that description doesn’t match how I acted. From other guest feedback, this seems like a pattern: room photos misrepresent what guests get, then guests are told they booked the “wrong category,” with little accountability. The staff weren’t outright rude, but the experience felt very nice-nasty.

We arrived just before vehicles were set on fire and looting started. Casa Ritual was lovely and quiet, close to the marina in a safe area, but guests were told to shelter in their rooms. The staff locked everything up and left after feeding us, with nobody there to provide more food. We went through most of Sunday and all Monday without news from outside, and there was just one gardener on staff. People were afraid to go out and were also hungry. Communication was poor, and an American couple had to argue to get access to the kitchen because everything beyond the hotel was shut down. Staff eventually let us cook and take drinks from the fridge, but at checkout they overcharged us for what we’d taken, even though several rooms had used the fridge. They also added a cleaning fee that had never been mentioned beforehand. We went more than two days without full staff, and our room was cleaned only once before we left. The staff were generally very nice, but management’s lack of transparency about the extra charges and the abandonment during a crisis was heinous. Given the circumstances, I wouldn’t recommend Casa Ritual or return.

The rooms are spacious, clean, and beautifully designed, and the staff are friendly and helpful. We especially enjoyed the food and drinks, particularly the quacamole. The pool and court area feel private, with the bar right next to them. We loved our November 2024 stay at this cute boutique hotel. It’s away from the main tourist areas, so it’s calm and relaxing, but an Uber to the center of PV is quick and cheap. It’s very close to the airport, though the planes didn’t bother us much. I’ll absolutely stay here again. Thank you ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Staff had already authorized guests to use the kitchen, food, and drinks during the security crisis. When the staff member returned Monday evening, they confirmed that earlier permission and explicitly handed us wine and beer before leaving again, saying we’d figure it out later because there were no protocols for a situation like this. After abandoning guests during the crisis, management tried to punish us with fabricated charges. Their public response to the review below is a lie. This hotel is predatory and unprofessional, leaving guests stranded in a crisis and then trying to bully them afterward.
