Hotel Delfin

The location is perfect, and I really appreciated the friendly, helpful staff and daily room cleaning. Still, I was disappointed with the stay. Bugs showed up in the bathroom at night, and there was no hot water late at night, so I had cold showers after evening activities. Although the package was advertised as all-inclusive, there was no Wi-Fi in the room, which meant using my own mobile data the whole time. The food was repetitive, with mostly the same meals every day, and I got food poisoning. I hadn’t eaten anywhere outside the hotel. The visitor rules were frustrating too. Friends who came from another city couldn’t visit my room, only common or dining areas. That seemed unreasonable compared with other high-quality properties, where visitors were allowed with permission, and where I’d been able to visit friends’ rooms without a problem.

We booked well ahead and paid under CAD 150 a night, which felt like a great deal. The view from our fourth-floor room was incredible, with the beach, pier, and sunsets right there. We even watched the Day of the Dead fireworks from our balcony. The room was spacious and had some nice updates, though the hotel is over 50 years old, so keep expectations realistic. It was decently clean, but the sofa could have used a shampoo. The bed was the highlight. I usually find mattresses in Mexico brick-firm, but this one had a comfortable mattress and a 3-4 inch foam topper, plus thick pillows that worked well for side or back sleeping. With blackout curtains and the A/C fan for white noise, we slept beautifully. I’m writing this from the bed at the Fairmont Vancouver Airport hotel and already miss the one at the Delfin. A couple of small things: if you’re the first to shower in the tower in the morning, hot water can take 10-15 minutes to arrive. A circulation pump would help. Housekeeping did a great job, but bleach on the floor sometimes turned our black socks pink. We spent 9 nights in the “Luxury - Adults Only” tower and would highly recommend it.

The bell hops were good, and the location is nice, but that’s about it. It’s a very basic hotel, and the welcome letter was unsettling, listing potential charges and mentioning pee twice. The beds were poor quality and left us with back pain. There weren’t even blankets in the room unless you asked for them. Wi-Fi only works in common areas. Street noise and bright lights came into the room, and the key, card, and remote setup was odd. They also seemed overly focused on the different bracelet colors. I wouldn’t recommend staying here if you want even a halfway decent night’s sleep.

There are so many rules, and they charge for everything. Wi-Fi was lousy and didn’t reach the whole hotel, and there was no hair dryer. The rooms and pool shown here seem to be for exclusive guests, just two levels like that. The buffet food had little flavor and seemed to be reheated for dinner, while other guests had an à la carte restaurant. There’s no mini split A/C, and when you turn it on, it smells really bad, like humidity. The rooms felt unsafe: the old key locks on the doors were loose, and the balcony door lock didn’t work.
