Hotel Hacienda Maria Elena

We spent most of our time unwinding by the pool on comfortable loungers, with a couple of walks to the beach and along the trail to the waterfall. It was a very homey B&B stay. The house and rooms have lovely Mexican charm, with beautiful artwork, and the friendly staff served delicious meals. Drinks were self-serve, though someone was always around in the kitchen to make something special. It would be easy to take a cab into town, but we were happy just relaxing around the casa.

The setting by the river is absolutely gorgeous, and the rooms are beautiful and nicely appointed. Michael and his crew are fabulous at running a hacienda, and everything you need for a great Puerto Vallarta stay is there. Enrique is always ready to help. For time on the water, Jamy and Olga can take your family or friends fishing, whale watching, bird watching, or whatever you’d like to see. Absolutely a must-do!

We loved this place. It’s close enough to walk to two great beaches, which was the icing on the cake. Mike and Molly were fantastic hosts and made us feel at home in their amazing house. From the photos and stories, the fishing looked incredible too, and the fishermen brought back fresh tuna for dinner. That was a treat.

Jamy and Olga really want you to have a good time, and their excitement when you hook a fish is contagious. On our first fishing day we caught roosterfish, mahi, and African pompano. On our second trip we saw two sailfish and safely caught and released one. Jamy clearly respects the water and the fish. They’re great captains and have also shown kindness to people in need at least three times, and we’ve only been here three days. The rooms are clean, the showers are hot, and the chef makes amazing food, including three-course meals with your catch every night. The bar is self-serve, but Enrique is there to mix drinks, make you feel at home, and keep your glass from getting empty. Mike gave us lots of helpful information about what to expect and Mexican culture. I’d absolutely recommend booking a trip!
