The location is the main thing this hostel has going for it. It’s small, with hardly any comfortable common seating, and after staying here several times around 2018-2020, I came back recently to find things hadn’t improved. The rooms felt stuffy and smelled bad, the AC hours aren’t enough, and regular fans would help. The room doors are basically left open all the time. Cleanliness has also slipped badly. The cleaner seemed to spend more time making her own breakfast than cleaning. Getting help is another problem. Staff are often absent or unhelpful, and there are outside guests around and some sketchy things happening in rooms at times. There’s no reliable way to reach anyone. I forgot my key one night, which was my fault, but I couldn’t contact anyone for help. When I raised these concerns with Andre, the owner or manager, he responded condescendingly and told me to stay elsewhere if I wanted to control the AC and have people cater to me. I was also charged more than I’d prepaid. My booking didn’t mention extra arrival or credit card fees. Other reviewers have said card payment surcharges are illegal in Mexico. I stayed again only because the location was convenient between other stays, and I was disappointed.

For the usual hostel price, this place is outstanding. It was very quiet on Sunday and Monday night, with few guests, and I felt safe and comfortable. Highly recommend.

Being so close to the beach and center is the hostel’s strongest point. The bathrooms need attention: the extractor doesn’t work, and the light switches off every two minutes. Running the AC during the hottest part of the day, around 2-4 pm, would help a lot in humid weather. It would also be nice to have activities that help guests meet, like at other hostels. Some volunteers came across as unprofessional. A quick greeting when opening dorm curtains would be appreciated, and stepping almost over people to make beds without saying “excuse me” felt rude. Felipe especially seems unhappy in the role, and that comes through in how he treats guests.

We had such a good time here and would come back to Puerto Vallarta if we get the chance. The beds are huge and comfortable, and everyone on staff was welcoming and helpful. Since it was our first trip to Mexico and we’re British with no Spanish, they kindly translated everything for us. I’d only ask for the AC to come on an hour earlier. Still, five stars from me. Thanks, guys, we had the best stay.

The location made it easy to enjoy Zona Romantica, with the beach a short walk away and lots of restaurants nearby. There’s a great social feel for meeting other travelers, and the owner shared useful local food and drink recommendations. I felt welcome from the moment I arrived. Jullian and Felipe were especially helpful and consistently cheerful, and the place was kept very clean with frequent tidying. For the location, service, and overall stay, the price felt well worth it. My only small wish is for softer blankets. I had a great time and plan to return.
