We understood that staffing and food choices at the resort were limited because of the circumstances. We had two restaurant bookings for Sunday and one for Monday, but those places were closed, leaving the buffet as our only dining option. That was disappointing, though we understood the situation. We paid $65 CAD per person for the buffet on two nights in a row, but the selection was only a fraction of what we'd normally expect at that price. We still tipped the serving staff generously because we appreciated their efforts during a difficult time. We respectfully asked whether they could make a small adjustment, even $10 per person, especially since we'd heard other guests had received accommodations. The three-star rating is specifically about how on-site manager Vanessa handled our concern. Her response was dismissive and inappropriate. She said we should have gone off the resort if we didn't want to pay for the buffet. With security concerns and recent attacks in the area, that was particularly troubling and insensitive. She also told us we had no empathy, which surprised us after we'd been patient and understanding throughout the stay. We understand circumstances can affect the food options. Our complaint is about how we were spoken to and management's lack of professionalism.

The room was very nice, but the timeshare presentation went on for a long time. Four different people gave presentations that were basically the same, and they only let us go once they realized we wouldn't change our minds. We had already booked a week through RCI when Cristina emailed the cost of two extra nights. She confirmed the total in several emails. At checkout, there were additional charges. I asked Cristina about them, but she hasn't replied to any of my many emails or explained the charges. Overall, a disappointing experience.

We've owned a timeshare club membership since 2004, but because we haven't upgraded to a new extended contract, we were removed from the Presidential suites, now called Ambassador suites. Two years ago, they told us a suite in the Presidential building would always be available until our contract ended, which isn't for another eight years. They're not honoring that promise, and it's very disappointing. For our recent May 2026 vacation, we were given a suite in building D, beside local community areas with beach access. People party on the beach all night, and the music blares from midnight until 5 a.m. Management said all they could do was report the disturbance to police. The local police were notified several times on several nights and did nothing. After checking out, we learned this has been a common problem. They knew before putting us in building D and didn't care. We'd always loved Buganvilias Resort, but now we're disgusted. Unless we buy an upgraded timeshare, it feels like we're screwed. This reflects very badly on Sheraton International and Starwood hotels. Beware of suites in building D.

Our booking was for two weeks, six adults, and a kitchen, but the rooms offered only slept four and had futons instead of beds. We kept refusing the inferior rooms they tried to give us, more than three times. They said only a timeshare presentation would let them change the rooms, so we signed up and eventually accepted a better setup, though it still wasn't what we'd booked. We had to agree to another presentation too. The room situation kept changing. After the first week, we were told we could stay put, then the next morning told to check out. Later they offered to let us keep one room and wait until 3pm for the other, which we refused. The night before checkout we were told we could keep one room until noon, but in the morning that was changed to a 10am checkout. Because of the cartel uprising, we couldn't use another room we'd booked. We were told we couldn't get a refund, but could rebook it for a week next year, then told it had to be arranged through the travel agency we used. The Wi-Fi was so unreliable that we had to reinstall the code as often as three times an hour, and still went much of the day without it. The sofa beds and futons were hard and uncomfortable, so we had to ask for foam pads. Front desk staff were impossible to deal with. Only two of the seven restaurants had good food, and the prices were extremely high.

The hotel service was marginal, and staff were unapologetic about the room problems. Research carefully before booking. This was an RCI exchange, and our dated, stuffy room had a musty smell that lingered. Just hours after check-in, water started coming through the bathroom ceiling. We were moved that evening, but the next day, on a floor two levels higher, water was leaking again from both the bathroom and hallway ceilings. Maintenance emptied an old plastic container that had been catching water from the air conditioner. When the access panel was taken off, we saw black mold. Midway through the stay, they fumigated the entire floor where our unit was for “insect control.”
