Hotel Tropicana Vallarta

This is our place in Puerto Vallarta, and we’ve been back several times. It’s a budget-friendly older hotel that’s well maintained, with ocean views from many rooms. Our favorite is the Jr Suite, with its full kitchen and huge ocean-view patio. The Superior Room has two large patios and an ocean view, but no kitchen, coffee maker, or mini refrigerator. One of those would be a great addition. The location is perfect for us. There’s a mini market across the street, our favorite restaurants are within a 5 minute walk, and we walk along the beach walkway to places farther away. We don’t need to take a taxi. During the cartel violence, the staff took very good care of us and let us extend our stay with one night free. Highly recommend.

The Tropicana refunded ALL our money when we got stranded in Canada on the day of the unrest, even though our reservation was well past the free cancellation date. I’ve stayed here many times and highly recommend it. Great people, rooms, and location.

We were staying at the hotel on Feb 22 when the airport shut down and a Shelter in Place was ordered because of cartel activity in the area. It was frightening, and the staff and management did a superb job looking after everyone’s safety. They made sure guests and staff were fed and felt secure. When our flight back to Canada was canceled, they let us extend our stay. We really appreciate everything the amazing staff did. Thank you so much.

The price was good for the location, and the staff were friendly. The pool was clean, and there’s a restaurant on site. Our dated 2 bedroom had a kitchen, and the AC worked in both bedrooms, though not in the living room. That was okay since we barely used it. Our building had no elevator, which was a minor inconvenience, but could be a problem if you need one. I think some of the other buildings had elevators.
