Las Cabanas Del Capitan

The grounds and location are lovely, and the place felt very family friendly, with amenities easy to get to. The suite, though, was badly dated and in need of repairs. A light switch was hanging from the wall with wires exposed, and the beds were rock hard. The linens looked old and dingy, so we bought pillows hoping to sleep better, but that didn't help. The room divider was broken in several spots, the blender didn't work, and many utensils were rusty from being exposed to the elements. We stayed over Christmas.

The room faces the pool, and since the bungalow is open to the air everywhere except the bedroom, I felt exposed whenever I wasn't inside it. The whole room, bathroom included, was painfully hot and humid, while the bedroom air conditioner struggled. The hotel room door has an ordinary house doorknob, which didn't feel safe. With the entire front wall missing, I couldn't trust my belongings would still be there after a beach trip. The place looks shabby and run-down. At check-in, the guy counted the spoons and forks, which felt insulting, as if he thought I'd steal one. Just no.

We really enjoyed the relaxed, friendly family atmosphere. There were families with little kids as well as older guests, and it made a nice mix. The location is ideal, near shops and restaurants and right by a lovely stretch of beach for swimming or relaxing. The facilities were well looked after, the beds and linens were comfortable, and there were plenty of lounge chairs. You can choose between two pools, cook in the kitchens, or eat outside, which was a big plus. We'd happily book again next year.

The location deserves five stars, but everything else was awful. The service was horrible, the rooms were dirty, and I found cockroaches by the TV. The front desk staff were rude and really unpleasant. I wouldn't come back.
