Camino Real Saltillo

The shower wouldn’t drain and flooded, while the sink faucet was clogged and only let out a tiny trickle. Housekeeping had supposedly been told that some rooms get regular towels but no hand or floor towels. My remote didn’t work; the front desk promised a replacement, which arrived three hours later after I called several times. The more serious concern was the doors. I could push mine open without a key, and the same was true of a few other rooms I’d booked. The rooms also seemed rarely swept. I found pebbles, staples, and other debris on the floor. Some pillows were lumpy, others completely flat. At one point, repair workers walked in without knocking to “check if the toilet was working.” There’s plenty more wrong that I don’t have the patience to list. I’m very disappointed, and it’s hard to believe corporate lets this hotel use the Camino Real name. It’s a stain on the chain’s prestige.

I waited almost an hour and a half for a bottle of water. I called around ten times, then went down to reception, where they made me wait another ten minutes before giving me one. For a hotel called five-star, the customer care felt less than one-star. This was the worst service I’ve ever experienced, and I’d be very pleased to report it to someone higher up.

They call it a hotel, but it felt more like a motel, with hotel prices. The rooms were dirty, with spots on the pillows and cigarette-burned blankets. My back door kept opening on its own, and the plumbing was bad. The paths to the rooms are lovely, but that’s the kind of thing I’d expect at a motel, not a place calling itself a hotel. The food wasn’t anything special either, and was priced like fancy dining.

I was especially pleased with the breakfast and the service. The hotel was quiet and comfortable once I got used to the layout. A few rooms look a little dated, but I had no real complaint.
