The breakfast was interrupted by a street seller trying to sell me knick-knacks while I was barely awake and waiting for coffee. That felt out of place inside a hotel. Our room also had poor ventilation. The window opened onto the interior hallway, which felt uncomfortable since people passing could look in, or possibly climb in. It affected our sense of privacy and security. On the plus side, the small rooms were cozy and well kept, the staff were friendly and accommodating, and we had a pleasant stay overall. Hotel Lya has potential, but better ventilation, privacy, and a calmer breakfast area would improve it.

I loved the walk into downtown. It’s not very close, but you get plenty of steps in and can explore along the way.

The main issue was noise from some guests, so bring earplugs if you’re a light sleeper. It’s mostly a place to sleep. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff attentive and friendly. The place feels welcoming, about a 20-minute walk from the center.

The acoustics can be rough for light sleepers, especially when some tours leave early. Earplugs should help. Still, if you want affordable accommodation in a good location, this is a good option. It’s in the Guadalupe neighborhood, a few blocks from the church and the street that turns into the Guadalupe Walkway. There are dining choices for different budgets, craft shops, and tour operators there. The hotel works with an operator I took three tours with, and I highly recommend them. The hotel and rooms are simple, just right for travelers who spend the day exploring Chiapas and come back to sleep. My room had two double beds and suited three people; larger rooms are available. The rustic, minimalist furniture was practical, and the full-length mirror came in handy while one person got ready and another showered. Breakfast is served from 7-11 am in a room with about six tables. It was more substantial than I expected, with eggs and beans, chilaquiles, fried plantains, and American coffee. The whole staff were attentive and helpful. Samara and Jesús were always looking out for us and making sure our stay was pleasant.

It’s a little far from the center, but a good base for exploring other places in Chiapas. The beds are comfortable, there’s hot water, and everyone was respectful. The place is cozy, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the breakfasts are delicious. I’d recommend it if you want to explore Chiapas.
