We booked and prepaid three nights with breakfast and parking. At check-in, the clerk asked for a card payment anyway. After arguing about the prepayment, I gave him another card and said I’d dispute the first charge. They ended up taking payment twice, and I still haven’t received a refund. Breakfast is served at a restaurant in another hotel on a different street; they only explain that when you go looking for the hotel restaurant and find there isn’t one. Calling 101 for the front desk got no answer. I had to find someone, usually outside on their phone. At checkout they asked us to pay for breakfast. I refused, tried to leave, and the clerk shut the garage door so I couldn’t get my car out until I gave him $40 USD in cash. We stayed in the two-bedroom penthouse on the fourth floor. There are only stairs, no luggage carts, and no help carrying bags. The place felt worn out and more like a dorm renting rooms than a hotel with services. In the suite, the lock didn’t work, some bulbs were out and switches didn’t work, and the kitchen faucet had come loose. The bathroom and kitchen metal bins were rusty; the windows were filthy inside and out. Bathroom windows had no handles or locks and stayed open all day and night, so the bathrooms were very cold. Of the three TVs, we had no remotes for a day after check-in. The shower controls were rusty and leaking, there were no window blinds, and the entry was a sliding glass patio door opening onto a stairway. Kitchen utensils were old and unpleasant, there were no paper towels, and we had to ask for water and coffee kits. These are the facts of my stay at Plaza Magnolia Suites.

Just a heads-up, the photos and reviews can get mixed up because there are two properties, Plaza Magnolias Hotel and Plaza Magnolias Suites. My review is for Plaza magnolias Suites. We were first given rooms 179 and 229, where music from the neighboring restaurants was quite loud. When we asked, the staff moved us to rooms 320 and 321, which was a very kind gesture. I’m now in 320, tucked under the roof beams, and it feels cozy. The rooms are spacious, very clean, and well maintained, though the curtains could use attention. Beds and pillows are comfortable, and the Wi-Fi works well throughout. My room has a hot shower with strong pressure; room 229 had a rain shower instead. Some rooms have heaters and others fans. The location is great, with everything we wanted to see just around the corner. The rooms are beautiful, there’s a parking garage, and the staff are so friendly. Did I mention how kind they are? The photos show room 229 and its area first, followed by room 321 and its area.

The staff were so kind and friendly. I really enjoyed staying here, the location is great, and the room was comfortable and relaxing.

It’s close to the city center, and the rooms are spacious, but there’s no elevator. Our room wasn’t properly set up: there was just one bottle of water, the disposable toiletries had already been partly used, and we got only one towel. The sheets were clean but very worn. There’s no air conditioning, refrigerator, or kettle either. Breakfast is served at a different place on the street behind the intersection. Unfortunately, the hotel staff don’t speak English.

This colonial hotel is right in the center, but it’s very dated. The rooms above reception are a bad choice if you want to sleep: noise from the building never lets up, and a pressurized pump whirs whenever anyone in any room turns on a tap. There’s no ventilation either. With other places nearby, staying here makes me feel like I’m being cheated. If this helps anyone, write to me and I’ll suggest alternatives.
