I love the story and the people, and the atmosphere is incredible, but the rooms are too cold for that price. The hot shower stays hot for one minute, then it’s only cold water. The rooms don’t face the nice atmosphere of the house na bolom, they’re in the back garden with roads all around, and it was the loudest night we had in san christobal. The fireplace is the good part, but without it you’re way too cold. The rooms are like bungalows, so all the walls and the floor are cold. We also had more insects in the room than anywhere else on our travels in Mexico, even places where we’d been in the jungle. It could be a great place, but the price is way too high for what you get. They also need to provide more wood if the fire is the only thing keeping you warm!

The building is beautiful, and the exhibits are thoughtfully put together with information in English too. I spent around 30 minutes in this small museum. It’s an easy walk and a pleasant way to fill spare time, though I wouldn’t call it a must-see. There are restrooms. I visited the museum, not the hotel, and it would help if Google Maps listed them separately so their reviews didn’t get mixed together.

The couple’s desk and chair seem to hold the passion they put into their life’s work. We loved looking around the restored hacienda of Danish Swedish explorers who did remarkable work with the region’s indigenous people. Their story is inspiring, and I’d make time for this museum if you’re nearby.

The price is very reasonable, and I found the hotel’s history of indigenous people fascinating. It’s a little way from the city center, but I think staying here and supporting an indigenous business is worth it. Be sure to see the museum, back garden, and chapel.

The gardens are lovely for sitting, wandering, and taking in the place. This is one of my favorite small museums and gardens in San Cristobal, with a lot to learn about an inspiring Swiss woman, a little about her Danish husband, and the indigenous people they befriended and advocated for from the 1950s onward. There’s also a small hotel, restaurant, and a few other options on the grounds, in the original home where the couple and their adopted Mexican daughter lived and worked for decades.
