Hotel Jovel

The staff were the highlight, so friendly and attentive. The beds and shower were good too, and the hotel is in a perfect spot. Great value for money!

The garden and rooftop patio are lovely, and the hotel sits in the old part of the city with plenty of restaurants nearby. Our double room was small but had enough room to get around. The bed was firm and comfortable, and the small bathroom was manageable. It was cold at night in San Cristobal, but our bed had enough covers, with two heavy wool blankets in the cupboard as well. We had lots of outlets in our room, unlike some others. My brother’s room was huge, with a king bed, but only had one or two plugs. There’s a restaurant nearby called Sarajevo that I highly recommend.

The hotel has a pretty indoor garden and a rooftop veranda. We booked a room without breakfast through booking.com, got confirmation from the hotel, and had been in touch about our departure time. But when we arrived, they said our room wasn’t available and suggested another hotel. They didn’t speak English, although the booking site listed English and Spanish as languages spoken there. With Google Translate and a lot of persistence, we got a smaller room for one night, then something similar to what we’d booked, all for the same price. I’ll never book there again.

The property is beautiful, but that was the one good thing for me. The beds were old and in awful shape, and there was an annoying light outside my room. I wouldn’t stay again. I gave it three stars, though it really deserved only one.
