Hotel San Angel & Spa

They discriminate against motorcyclists who don't own a Harley-Davidson, and they charge visitors a fee.

We were in town because my girlfriend's mother was sick and in a local hospital, so we drove 12 hours from home to Rio Colorado. After finding this hotel online, we checked in quickly with help from the front desk and were in our room within 10 minutes. The buffet breakfast was great over the next few days, and the service was good. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant one night and ate elsewhere on the other days. It's right on the main highway, with lots of shops and stores nearby.

On March 6, 2024, a friend and I paid 480 pesos for a glass of orange juice each and access to the outdoor pool. The hot tub wasn't hot. When I went inside to top up my drink, the dining room manager came out to say I needed to use a plastic cup, which was fine, but also told me I hadn't paid for a refill. If you're visiting San Luis Rio Colorado, Mexico, take this place off your list.

The restaurant food and pool are the best parts, but the service and quality have been slipping for a while. The internet is unreliable, so don't count on working from here, and the TV channels are limited. They charge for ice cubes, even though they used to have an ice machine. Who knows what happened to it? I asked for a first-floor room with a balcony, but they said none were available when I arrived. Somehow they did have a first-floor room with two beds, for a higher price, even though the hotel wasn't close to full. You also have to call to reserve a room because they don't take online reservations. I used to like this hotel a lot.
