While I was staying in CDMX, I booked a day ride at Rancho Guadalupe. The horses were gorgeous and clearly well cared for, and the stables were incredibly clean. We rode for 3.5 hrs to an old volcano, passing through the surrounding villages and taking an intermediate trail uphill. Olga and the staff made it a special, beautiful place to visit. Afterward, there was a lovely lunch, and Olga spontaneously showed me around the town Ajusco. The ranch, the horses, and the hospitality were all 10/10. I can’t wait to return and stay there next time!

The horses were great, and the rides took us through beautiful places. The staff were so lovely, and Lucy is an incredible cook. We had the best holiday we’ve ever been on, and it was amazingly relaxing for a ranch so close to Mexico City. We can’t wait to come back!

12/10. The ride, atmosphere, views, dogs, and pool were all amazing, and the food was delicious. Olga, Nick, and the whole staff were so accommodating. It exceeded my expectations.

The rides were a highlight of our stay. Olga and Alejandro asked about our riding experience and what we hoped to see, then matched my sister and me with horses suited to our skills. We visited one of the many volcanos in Ajusco, with incredible views. They let us ride a little ahead to explore while keeping an eye on us and making sure we were comfortable. The stables had a wonderful range of gorgeous, well-trained horses, and Alejandro was the head caballero at the Rancho. After the ride, we shared a family-style lunch made by Lucy. It was fresh, inventive, and delicious. She makes all her own sauces, and her cooking was a real treat. We finished the day with a swim in the heated pool and a soak in the jacuzzi to soothe our muscles before the next day. The following days brought more great food, guidance from Olga and Alejandro, amazing horses, wonderful tours, and relaxing evenings. Lucy welcomed us when we arrived, and she was kind, attentive, and talented. She adjusted every meal to our tastes. Olga, the Rancho’s charming, knowledgeable, kind, and detail-oriented Señora, quickly got us ready for our first ride. We also met Don Pedro, the lively, kind owner of the Ranch and Olga’s husband. By the end, we felt like part of this eclectic, lively Rancho family. My sister and I had found Rancho Guadalupe while searching for a “dude ranch” in Mexico, and we weren’t sure what to expect. From our first inquiry about availability and logistics, Nico, the Rancho’s manager, was responsive and attentive, so I felt we’d be in good hands. He arranged our pickup at Mexico City airport and our ride to the Rancho. It’s only a 45-minute drive away, but the peaceful, quaint city of San Miguel de Ajusco feels like another world. The sprawling estate is tastefully decorated in authentic Mexican ranchero style, and the rooms are cozy and comfortable. We had an amazing, relaxing, delicious, adventurous, engaging, and memorable 4 days. We’ll surely return, and I’d recommend it to anyone who likes horses and riding.
