The grounds and facilities were kept up almost perfectly, and the property itself is visually stunning. Its location is ideal, and the staff were professional, friendly, and attentive. We had a spacious deluxe colonial king room with good furnishings, a lovely garden and pool view, a comfortable bed, and the quietest hotel room we've ever stayed in. The HVAC worked well, and the bathroom and shower were excellent. My small complaint was the lack of a dresser. For a longer stay we like unpacking into drawers, and the couple of shelves weren't enough for both of us. The gym was airy, clean, large, and full of equipment that looked new and upscale. It had plenty of natural light, open windows, and a studio attached for floor work. I did miss having upright bikes, since there were only recumbent ones, and the only water available was chlorophyll water. Plain, unflavored water would've been much better. My wife was very impressed with the spa treatments, which were as good as or better than what she's had at other five-star hotels. The bar has a lovely atmosphere, and there was a fire going on the cold evening we arrived. We also liked the 1826 restaurant. Breakfast was excellent, though the room could be chilly on a cold morning and there was no buffet. I had to ask for coffee refills each morning instead of having them offered. The rooftop terrace lives up to its reputation, with wonderful views over town, good service, and quality appetizers. There were two service problems behind our four-star rating. One day we stayed in our room past the usual housekeeping time. Reception kindly called to ask when we'd like it serviced, but the cleaning never happened. Housekeeping was otherwise good, so I hope this was a one-time miss. The bigger issue was the concierge. Their emails before our visit seemed slow, and they never answered a message we sent two days before arrival about a restaurant reservation. At check-in they said they hadn't received it, although it was still in our sent mail. One evening we asked for a casual place, specifically not a Michelin-star type of restaurant. The first suggestion featured a Michelin-starred chef, white tablecloths, and high-end food in its online description. We asked for another option and got recommendations that suited us much better. When we asked the concierge to book one, they said the restaurant didn't accept reservations. A quick online search showed a review saying it gets busy and reservations are needed, so we called and booked ourselves. Without the concierge problems, I'd have given five stars.

Breakfast was superb each morning, and our room was roomy and nicely appointed. We spent five days here in December 2024, using the hotel as a base to explore San Miguel and nearby areas. The property is beautiful, but service wasn't consistent across the hotel or at the level we expected from a Rosewood property. Even so, we'd happily stay here again.

The tower suite was the most beautiful room I've ever stayed in, and Restaurant 1826 was fantastic. The architecture honors San Miguel's beauty, and the service was incredible from beginning to end. A truly ultra-luxury resort.

We've visited the rooftop restaurant and bar around six times or more. The sunset views are excellent, and the service is friendly and attentive. The food is decent, though it hasn't really stuck with us, and the prices are very high. On at least four visits we just had a drink at sunset and shared a couple of starters. This time there were eight of us at a raised table facing the evening sky. It's worth going once for the view, maybe for a drink and snack, before deciding whether to spend on a full meal.

The building and grounds are impressive, and the people smile with such natural warmth and joy. It's a lovely place, full of the kind of love Mexicans show everyone, whoever they are. As Lala says, “10 out of 10”.
