The rooms are very clean, and from the second floor you get one of the best views in town. The staff are friendly, and the location works well depending on what you’re doing, though it’s far from downtown. The reception can call mototaxis, so getting around is easy. Room quality varies. Some are really nice, while others have no closet, chair, or bathroom mirror. If many people shower at once, the water can turn cold. The shampoo packet is extremely small. It’s a decent budget stay with plenty of potential, but the service needs more consistency and some upgrades.

A good place for one night. The room was quiet, clean, and had windows we could open for a cool night. There’s good parking on site, and the staff were friendly. We walked past the town murals on our way to the little plaza. The hotel is right by the archaeological site and artesanos.

We were comfortable and happy with our stay, and the service was good. They even tidied the room and left fresh towels while we were out. We liked staying on the hill behind the incredible archaeological site because it was peaceful and quiet. It’s about a 15-minute walk to the town center and four minutes to the church and the amazing Mitla archaeological site. Without our own transport, we found motor taxis, like tuk-tuks, easy to get at all hours. The ride back up the hill costs around 20-40 pesos. The hotel’s lovely host booked us a regular taxi for early the next morning to Hierve de Agua, and it arrived right on time. If you’re not in a hurry, a shared taxi truck is cheaper. There’s a place in town where you meet them, though I don’t know if they do pickups. The small kitchenette and fridge were handy, and the percolator came in useful since we had brought coffee for the early start. They also offer quad bike trips to the caves. We wanted to book one but will try it next time. The price is excellent for what you get.

We spent a week here for a research project, and this family-run hotel handled all of our team’s needs. The staff were very friendly and flexible, even arranging extra rooms and beds at the last minute. Rooms are simple, spacious, and clean, and they provided everything we needed for a comfortable stay. It’s a great option for groups visiting Mitla and nearby sites, and one of the best values in town. The hotel is only a couple hundred meters from the archaeological site. The main drawback is that there’s no breakfast restaurant on site. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance, though most don’t open until 9 or 10 am.

Doña Carmen was joyful, attentive, and very helpful. The finished rooms are comfortable, with good hot water and pressure, although the hotel is still being built and adding rooms and floors. There’s no AC, but even in July the climate in Mitla usually makes open windows enough, except perhaps during the hottest part of the day. The downside is outside noise. A couple of nights we heard loud music from town late into the night, which could keep light sleepers awake. The location is great, with Mitla ruins, a tasty comedor, and a convenience store (miscelanea) all an easy walk away. Downtown is a bit farther, but it’s an easy walk downhill and a short mototaxi ride back up. Being on one of the higher parts of town also gives you great views of the town and surrounding landscape. We’d probably return to Hotel San Judas.
