Hacienda Santa Rosa de Lima

The food alone made this stay memorable. After visiting the Uxmal ruins and having a late lunch, we went back for tapas at dinner. Every appetizer was better than the last, with just the traditional Mexican and Yucatan flavors we hoped for. At breakfast before our 4+ hour drive to our resort in Akumal, my girlfriend's half-verdes, half-rojas chicken chilaquiles were the best we've ever had. Mine, the rancheros, were great too. We may have ruined chilaquiles for ourselves, but we're glad we tried them. We'd already eaten at two of Merida's best restaurants, and this place still impressed us. The welcome bottle of wine, fresh fruit, and dessert were a lovely touch, and we enjoyed the wine in our villa's private outdoor jacuzzi that night. We'd stayed a night here after Merida, and the location is far from any major centre. That suited us for a getaway from the cities, though it may not suit everyone. I have IHG Diamond status, so the grounds tour was included. Take it if it's offered, but the guide, a long-term employee, only speaks Spanish, which makes sense for this location. The hacienda has just 11 rooms, not the 15 I first thought. I was upgraded to the onsite village, Casa Maya. Our villa was huge. The shower pressure and temperature were just right, and the bed was very comfortable, though a little short for me at 6'3". Even the entry-level room seems like it would impress, and some rooms have hammocks, private pools, or outdoor jacuzzis. The staff were warm, friendly, and quick to help, always with a genuine smile. They clearly enjoy their work and made this one of my best hotel stays. The closest comparison I can give is the service at Intercontinental Tokyo Bay, which is high praise from me. Thank you for such a special stay at the exquisite Hacienda Santa Rosa de Lima.

We only stopped in for lunch, not an overnight stay, and the homemade pibil and tortillas were delicious. It's out of the way, but the food is out of this world.

Everyone was so kind and keen to make us feel at home, and the service was extraordinary. The food was delicious too. This beautiful historic building has been remodeled while keeping the character and beauty of the Yucatan haciendas. If you're passing through Merida, take a day to enjoy the place. Thanks to all the staff, especially Mrs Pool at the front desk, who made everything perfect.

We came for a meal and loved the beautiful place, good food, and amazing service. Mariano was the best! We'll definitely be back.
