The hallway carpets were old and dirty, and there was mold in the shower. The iron didn’t work, the ironing board was kid-sized, and the phone was out of order. At check-in I had to argue unnecessarily with the clerk because they wanted to give me one bed instead of the two clearly listed in my reservation. They also offered one breakfast when the reservation had already confirmed two.

A very nice hotel, close to Walmart, a shopping mall, a movie theater, and more.

The staff were great, and the rooms were clean and up to date. The food was awful. My hamburger was so hard it was like a hockey puck and difficult to eat, with fries that seemed to be from the day before, no exaggeration. The pizza wasn’t cooked through either: doughy crust, uncooked mozzarella, and orange tomato sauce that tasted nothing like tomatoes.

Luis, the GM, and his team made our three-month stay memorable with thoughtful personal touches, like greeting us by name and always being ready to help. They even drove us to the nearby Antea shopping mall on lazy days, though it’s actually a short walk, and gave us complimentary beer or wine coupons each day. The wait and kitchen team handled special requests happily and even prepared off-menu dishes for my wife. My wife and I felt more like we were living in a luxurious home than staying in a hotel. Our spacious penthouse suite on the seventh floor had a large bedroom, a full bathroom with dual sinks, tub and shower, another full bathroom, and a comfortable living room/den. Having a fridge, microwave, and our own WiFi made day-to-day life easy. After my hectic workdays, the comfortable bed and pillows helped me sleep peacefully. A heartfelt thank you to Luis and the whole team.

The hotel itself was decent, and the room was clean with very nice staff. The restaurant, though, was horrible at both dinner and breakfast. My wife and kids shared a hamburger and pizza. The burger patty was dry and hard like a hockey puck, the fries seemed at least a day old, and the food was the worst I’ve had despite visiting more than 80 countries. The bun was soggy and paper-thin, though it not being toasted wasn’t a big deal. The pizza crust and mozzarella weren’t cooked, and its orange sauce tasted nothing like tomato. At $330 for the burger and $220 for the pizza, the prices were far too high for food we couldn’t eat. I’d rather get a week-old hot dog from Oxxo next door than eat a free meal from that restaurant. Paying two or three times normal local prices for inedible food left me sore.
