Yaxja Hotel Tamasopo

The pool and greenery outside are beautiful, and the shower has amazing water pressure. Inside, though, the rooms smell funky and feel like a cheap motel. For the price, they need to maintain them better: the paint is coming off, the door wood is chipping, and the doors look easy to walk through. There’s no deadbolt, and you can only get two full-size beds, not one bed. The rooms need repainting, and the outdoor area needs a good power wash. The road in is bumpy with lots of potholes. They also inventory everything when you check out, going into the room after you turn in the key to count the sheets and towels and check that everything is okay. You have to return the TV and AC remotes to the front desk too.

The staff kindly let us use the kitchen fridge for our little ones’ milk. I only took one star off the room rating because there’s no mini fridge for drinks.

The property is well maintained, with groundskeepers out doing their work every morning. Our rooms were decent and very clean, and both breakfast options we tried on different mornings, buffet and menu, were good. We booked two rooms for three nights at this secluded spot, exactly the kind of place we wanted for relaxing, and really enjoyed our stay. The views are amazing, and it’s conveniently close to many lovely waterfalls, so I recommend it even over cd valles. Getting there means taking a rough road, but it’s manageable even in a small car. The reservation process was a little messy, with WhatsApp messages back and forth. They asked me to deposit 50% into their bancomer account, which seemed a bit odd, so I took a chance and just showed up that day.

The garden, location, and pool area are the only things this hotel has going for it. The customer service gets two stars at most, basically nonexistent. When you ask a question, the staff act like you’re bothering them. The rooms need a major upgrade: dirty walls, stiff beds, and outdated sheets. The room was no better than a motel 6. Wi-Fi was bad, and the phone signal was terrible too. Google Maps shows this place with five stars, but it’s nowhere near that.
