Our room was clean, the pool was clean too, and the drinks were okay. We booked the master suite as a group of friends because I’d been to Straw Hat in Tulum for parties and had a great time, so we expected a similar experience. We stayed four days and three nights, but none of the scheduled parties happened as advertised. On Saturday there were a few people, probably fewer than ten, and nothing special going on. If you’re after a party hostel where you can meet people, the Puerto Escondido location may not be the right place. Straw Hat Tulum is great for parties, though.

The welcome was warm, and the staff were attentive and friendly. We had excellent cocktails at the bar, enjoyed the music and atmosphere, and I had a wonderful stay in Puerto Escondido.

A really social, welcoming hostel where it’s easy to meet people, especially if you’re traveling solo. The people who work here made the stay for me. Diogo, Tommy and Naura were fun and friendly, and made everyone feel included right from arrival. I came to Straw Hat Hostel in Puerto Escondido for a few nights and ended up wanting to stay much longer. Great people and great vibes, highly recommend it.

Great location and a nice bar, but I’d avoid this place if reliable Wi-Fi, cleanliness, and working maintenance matter to you. I booked a private room so I could work online, but the Wi-Fi on the upper level in “queen 1” didn’t work, and the friendly staff member couldn’t fix it. In 2026, stable, fast Wi-Fi is a must. Maintenance was poor too, with two out of three things not working. I hadn’t used the shower yet, but it wasn’t clean, and there was mold around the sink. There was no hot water one night. The private room had hand soap but no shampoo, which felt odd. The towels were disgusting.

A great hostel with clean rooms, good facilities, and friendly staff. Adrian and Mafe especially impressed me. They were so willing to help and so welcoming that they made the whole stay much better.
