Hotel Inglaterra

The room and bathroom were decent and clean, and the location was good, but we didn't feel safe. Around 5:00 PM, after checking in and going for a walk, we came back to find our door open. A woman across the hall told me she'd seen three men come out of her room. She was with her children and too frightened to act, so she waited for her husband. We asked hotel staff whether cleaning at that hour was normal or someone had entered our room. Security said it wasn't normal and that cleaning staff didn't work then. They said they'd check the cameras. That night, we locked our door and put an object in front of it to keep anyone from getting in. At checkout, the day staff didn't know what incident we meant. Since our belongings were fine and we were leaving, we didn't push further. Still, I expected an explanation and wonder whether the night staff recorded it or actually reviewed the cameras.

It's a nice restaurant, though the portions are quite limited in both variety and size. Even Carne a la Tampiqueña isn't on the menu, despite the restaurant being right in the heart of Tampico.

When I asked for a towel, they told me to go buy one at the store.

The nicest parts were the location in front of the plaza and the small, pleasant pool. The maintenance man and housekeeping were nice too. Beyond that, the front desk was so-so, only one elevator worked, and lots of guests were complaining about the same air conditioning problem we had. On our first day the AC wasn't working. We asked for a fan, but it didn't arrive until morning. For five guests, we got just two bath towels; we called for more and never received them. The Wi-Fi wasn't working either, so we asked to switch rooms. We finally moved on day two, to a different floor, and had to transfer all our things ourselves. Nobody even asked if we needed help. On day three they told us breakfast wasn't available. I didn't bother raising that with the front desk, since both the day and evening reservationists seemed annoyed by everyone's complaints. The hotel was okay, nothing special. For what we paid, I wouldn't stay again. I'd look elsewhere for a worry-free stay.
