A good spot for getting away from the city and the crowds. It’s definitely a historic place, so read up on its story before you book. Knowing the background will add a lot to your stay.

We stayed in a lovely old house right by a river, at the end of a stone road. It’s quiet and full of rustic charm, though about 15-20 minutes from Tepoztlan center. The Santiago combi bus goes there and back for 8 pesos. A taxi costs around 50-90 pesos.

The setting feels full of history, and there’s a waterfall nearby, though getting to it is difficult. The house itself is lovely and very beautiful, but it’s across from a cemetery, which can feel a little intimidating 😅. We also found lots of scorpions and spiders in the rooms. That’s common in the countryside, but more frequent cleaning might help reduce them.

The beds and pillows were hard, the doors had no locks, and the thin curtains let the full morning sun into the rooms. Still, the house is rustic and beautiful, with spacious rooms, and Dorian gave excellent service. He’s attentive and wonderful with guests. There’s a beautiful waterfall very close by where you can swim, though the property itself is far from everything.
