Amatlán is a good base for hiking, climbing, camping, and other outdoor outings, and the hotel knows locals who can guide those activities. It’s about a 15-20 minute drive from central Tepoztlán, or you can ride the Combi, a small truck that runs between the center and Amatlán. We had excellent service from the time we booked, and I enjoyed staying at Hotel Hacienda Ventana del Cielo. The jacuzzi could use hotter water, especially in the colder months.

The view of the Clamanco and Tepoztlan Mountains is hard to beat, and the owners clearly put a lot of effort into keeping the place up. The pool and fountain were clean, the rooms were tidy, and the artwork was breathtaking. There’s working Wi-Fi, plus a restaurant and bar where the food was good, if nothing out of the ordinary. Service was attentive and excellent, and the quality felt like a five-star hotel. I’d recommend it to anyone looking to enjoy the relaxing, magnificent lifestyle of this quetzalcoatl village. I’d also seen complaints about the bathrooms, but they’ve definitely improved.

Service is great, and the simple rooms are comfortable. The hostal itself is nice, though it’s a long way from downtown. The restaurant at the hostal could use more staff.

Leaving the hotel means asking permission, and getting back in can involve a long wait. The room was in terrible shape, with crumbling walls and a filthy bathroom, and the whole place was dirty. The manager’s service was terrible too. For what you get, it’s definitely very expensive.

There’s no hot water for bathing, and getting around by car was a pain because the parking setup leaves cars blocking one another. I needed to leave at 5 a.m. for work, but they wouldn’t let me in then and made me wait until 6, so I arrived late. The area has no communication signal. You do get Wi-Fi once you arrive, but even that connection is poor. The hotel itself isn’t that bad.
