Hotel Solar de las Animas

We had a fantastic stay in the heart of Tequila, and I’d come back on our next trip. The hotel is stunning. From the rooms and service to the views and pools, you can see the effort that went into making it what it is. We were there when hardly anyone else was around, so it felt private. Loved the vibe, the courtyard music, and the quiet rooftop. My one complaint: it would’ve been nice to get advance notice that the courtyard pool would be closed for maintenance for most of our stay. Also, just two included coffees for the whole stay felt a little stingy for the price.

The central location is a plus, and the property is beautiful with large rooms. But it felt a bit dated, lacked the atmosphere we’d hoped for, and was quite expensive. The rooftop pool is small, and the other pool was closed during our visit. It’s Jose Cuervo’s hotel, so that’s the brand they promote, though there are much better smaller distilleries nearby. Overall, a bit meh.

It feels like a grand castle, with great amenities and a rooftop bar and pool. The staff are warm and welcoming, the restaurants are the best in town, and the location couldn’t be better.

We missed the annual Tequila Festival on our recent trip to Tequila, Jalisco, which was a little sad. We made up for it with a stop at Hotel Solar de las Animas. The downstairs hotel bar is beautiful, especially the altar behind it. We tried some of the hotel’s craft cocktails and really enjoyed them, then went up to the terrace bar for a great view of the main plaza. Beautiful hotel, and a must stay when you’re in Tequila.
