NH Mexico City Valle Dorado

I've stayed here twice, for almost two weeks each time, and next time I visit Mexico I'll try another hotel. I felt uncomfortable as an English-speaking guest. In my view, staff should know enough job-related English to take a food order or understand which room a guest is in. Most staff were very friendly, but nobody asked at checkout whether I was satisfied, and the restaurant staff didn't speak English. The hotel is inside a mall that's mostly empty. Around 90% of the people there seemed to be security staff, cleaners, or Sportium visitors. There's another option across the street, about a 10-minute walk, but you have to cross a bridge. The room was okay and had a small fridge, iron and board, hairdryer, armchair, little desk and chair, and wardrobe, but no kettle. At night it was much too dark: the hallway within the room had a bright central light, while the main room didn't. The mattress and pillows were comfortable. I disliked that the duvet was wrapped in two sheets instead of a proper cover, so my body often touched the duvet itself. The sink's hot water didn't work. Soundproofing was very poor. I could hear neighbors talking and laughing, an iPhone alarm, and even their light switches. The air conditioning was powerful but too loud to run at night. Housekeeping was okay, and they refilled a small bottle of mineral water each day. Still, I kept finding long black hairs in the bathroom, so it seemed the floor wasn't vacuumed or mopped, or at least not properly. Breakfast was okay, but sometimes there was no butter, and the cold cuts looked discolored. They offered only filter coffee, as far as I could tell. The staff only spoke Spanish with me. On my previous stay there was a machine for cappuccino and other specialty coffees. At breakfast, service gives you a small slip written entirely in Spanish, where you put your room number, name, and a tip. I always wrote a tip, assuming it would be added to the final bill. It wasn't on the invoice, and nobody explained how the system worked. I can understand why, given the language barrier.

For my first trip to Mexico, I picked Hotel NH Mexico City Valle Dorado to celebrate Christmas, expecting more from a place marketed as four-star. The location may suit some people, but the hygiene problems made the stay uncomfortable. There was a big patch of mold on the bathroom wall and ceiling, which concerned me. The sink had a visible oily film, and the floors hadn't been swept properly, with hairs and debris around. I found stained sheets and a clump of hair on the bath towel, too. The wall-mounted hairdryer was in poor shape, packed with thick dust and lint at the intake. It smelled foul when switched on and blew dust into the air. Room service was the worst food experience I've had. Everything was very oily and sugary, even the tacos, and it was expensive. I tried a little and threw the rest away. I expected better cleanliness and upkeep from a four-star hotel. I hope management takes these issues seriously and improves housekeeping and food quality.

Getting around the mall to reach the elevator is inconvenient. Breakfast was garbage: the servers were always hiding in the kitchen, nobody would make me an omelet or bring salt for my bland eggs, and there was no juice. Nothing was refilled. The hotel itself is OK.

We felt very welcome here, and staying with my little dog was a really nice experience for both of us. Reception was especially attentive and friendly, always greeting us with a smile. Yair's thoughtful support made a real difference. Breakfast was excellent, and the rooms were very clean with nice amenities, including a coffee machine. There were also treats like popcorn and candies, plus fresh water, at reception and on every floor.
