Hotel Coral Cuernavaca

It’s very quiet and reminds me of a rehab facility. It seems suited to young families, but there’s not much excitement. As a country club, though, it’s great for the pool and gym.

The pools and facilities are kept very clean, the beds are comfortable but firm, and the food was excellent and well prepared. The staff were friendly and tried their best, though service was slow. You can order ahead using the room phone, which I’d recommend. They seemed frustrated, even if they didn’t blame the manager. The place would be a much better deal if it cost $20 less per night. I can’t rate it above three stars, though I’d give the staff five. The shower sprayed in every direction except straight out. They replaced the shower head, but it still wasn’t great, and a decent one shouldn’t cost a fortune. They also don’t provide enough water bottles, there are no disposable cups in the bathroom, and the only garbage can is by the toilet. With the pools and facilities looked after so well, it’s hard to understand why management cuts corners on these basic things.

The pools are lovely, and the restaurant can be tasty, though it isn’t spectacular. The staff are very kind and helpful, even if things can get messy sometimes, so they still get five out of five from me. I wouldn’t recommend staying here because the rooms are uncomfortable: the sofas and beds are very hard, and the doors can be confusing. Each room’s main door needs a key to lock or unlock, and you can’t open it from inside without the key. The shower floor is also dangerously slippery.

Cuernevaca feels like being inside the sun, and the hotel hasn’t been renovated since it was built in the 70s. Only the most expensive rooms have AC, and they’re miles better, so book one of those.
