Casa Colibrí Tankah

The room was the best part. Screens on every window kept mosquitoes out, and our second-floor unit had a big balcony that felt private but still gave us that beachside lounging feel. The staff were friendly. The so-called continental breakfast was the low point and didn't match the room price. There was no coffee, so we made our own with the machine. On the first morning, the pastries were a small donut and a dry little croissant, with no butter or jam. The next day each of us got a small bun and a small croissant. At least the buns were warm on the third morning, unlike before. There was a little cereal, a few fruit slices, thin juice, and one tiny jar of yogurt for the two of us. I wouldn't complain at a $100 room, but this wasn't one. There was no hotel restaurant, so we went to nearby hotels to eat. The food was decent to good, but three seafood tacos with a little salad cost C$30. That's pricey for street-style tacos.

We just finished a fantastic week here. The property was gorgeous, with white sand right outside our room, hammocks under a covered section of the dock, and loungers with lovely sea views. A fresh breakfast came to our room each morning, just enough protein to get us going. Melissa and Nancy were wonderful hosts. They were attentive, answered all our itinerary questions, and were just lovely people. We rented a car, which worked well. The place is a short drive from the nightlife in town but still feels secluded and intimate. It was perfect for our stay, and we'll be back.

It's a little outside town, but so peaceful and worth the trip. You can fall asleep and wake up to the waves, and the host and daily breakfast are a great bonus. There's almost a private beach, with plenty of lounge chairs and shady spots beneath the palms.

The spacious, very clean rooms and handy little kitchen made the stay comfortable. We could make breakfast and lunch instead of eating out, and the beachside setting was beautiful. The host was really friendly. For us, the drawbacks were the distance from town, though that's part of the charm, and the beach felt quiet with hardly anyone around. That may have been because we'd just had a storm. Breakfast was tiny too, in my opinion about one person's portion for two.
